The same programme in private or in a group of two: what changes is how the lesson unfolds. Here is what to expect, from your first kite control to riding on your own.
2 hours, one student, one instructor. You have the instructor and the equipment to yourself for the whole lesson: you fly the kite from the first minute to the last, and every attempt gets the instructor’s full attention. Any level — a complete beginner can start in private, and it is the fastest way to progress.
3 hours, 2 pax per group, one instructor. On the first day the two students share one kite — you take turns, and while you are not flying you watch and learn. From the second or third day, once you both control the kite well enough to move safely and autonomously, you get one kite each, still in the same group with the same instructor. If nobody else is booked on your slot, you get a private lesson (2 hours) for the same price.
Lesson 1 is the discovery: setting up, flying the kite (about 70% of the lesson), launching and landing, generating power, water relaunch. Lessons 2 and 3: walking with the kite, body-drag and upwind body-drag, water start. By the end of five lessons you ride your first metres on the board on your own — the full IKO beginner path, recorded on your IKO progression card. Already riding? The improver / refresher, hydrofoil and strapless sessions pick up from your level.
A flat lagoon of white sand behind a coral reef, clear 30 °C water all year, 0.5 to 1.5 m deep — you can stand up everywhere, and we are the only school on the spot. Wind 10 to 15 knots, sometimes 20–25. We follow the seasons: north-east at Chaloklum from mid-November, thermal south-east on Thong Sala from mid-December/January to mid-April/May, then west at The Pier from May to October.
Certified IKO and IWO instructors, two students per instructor maximum, helmets and impact vests throughout, radio helmets so the instructor coaches you in real time, and a written IKO safety and rescue standard checked by the organisation. The whole learning phase happens in waist-deep water.
Book online and schedule your lessons yourself, whenever you like, depending on the wind. Lessons are valid for 18 months and refunded if there is no wind during your stay. Every lesson includes the full set — kite, bar, board, harness, helmet, wetsuit, life jacket and shoes — from Duotone, North, F-One, Mystic and ION, plus insurance.

Accrokite Kite School runs IKO (International Kiteboarding Organization) lessons for every level, on a flat, shallow lagoon where you can stand up at any moment. Every lesson follows the IKO progression and your progression card is updated as you go.
Group lessons — three hours per lesson, one instructor for two riders maximum, one kite each. It is how most people learn with us: a single lesson to try the sport, or a package of three or five lessons to follow the full beginner path from kite control to riding on your own. If nobody else is booked on your slot, you get the instructor to yourself at the same price.
Private lessons — two hours one-to-one, at any level. The same programme, adapted to your pace, for those who want to progress fast or prefer to learn alone.
Improver / Refresher — two-hour private sessions for riders who already water start and want to ride upwind, nail transitions, jump or try strapless surfboard riding, and for those who learnt a while ago and want a safe return to the water.
Hydrofoil — two-hour private sessions on dedicated foil gear, for independent riders who want to fly above the water in light wind.

IKO · Certification standards
Every lesson follows the official IKO progression. These are the skills your instructor signs off, letter by letter, on your IKO card — a record recognised by schools and rental centres in more than 40 countries. Group and private lessons take you from Level 1 to Level 3; improver, hydrofoil and strapless sessions build on Levels 3 and 4.

Riding on your own: upwind, transitions, toeside and self-launch.

Accrokite is a certified IWO (International Wingfoil Organization) centre on Thong Sala Beach, and wingfoil is the easiest of the foil sports to start: a handheld wing, a big stable board and a shallow lagoon to learn in. Every lesson follows the IWO progression, from Level 1 (wing handling on the beach and on the board) to Level 4 (foiling jibes, tacks and wave riding), and your IWO progression card is updated as you go.
Group lessons — three hours per lesson, one instructor for two riders maximum. A single lesson to discover the wing, or a package of three or five lessons to progress from your first board exercises to standing, riding and your first flights on the foil.
Private lessons — two hours one-to-one, at any level, for those who want close coaching on every attempt.
Improver / Refresher — two-hour private sessions for wingfoilers who already fly and want to work on jibes, tacks, pumping and swell, or who need a refresher after a break.

We offer Kite Instructor Courses accredited by the International Kiteboarding Organization (IKO). Whether you are starting a career as a kiteboarding instructor or renewing your certification, Accrokite runs the Assistant Training Course (ATC), the Instructor Training Course (ITC) and the Instructor Reinstatement Course (IRC), with a First Aid / CPR day in between.
Already an instructor with another organisation (VDWS or another recognised body)? IKO no longer runs a separate equivalency course: to become IKO certified you attend the ITC. Candidates register with IKO and pay the IKO fee on ikointl.com, then pay the school fees on this site.

Koh Phangan has three wind seasons, and we move the school with them. From mid-November to mid-December/January the wind is north-east and we ride at Chaloklum. From mid-December/January to mid-April/May the thermal south-east wind sets in on Thong Sala — the main season, usually the most regular and often the strongest, with February and March at the top. From May to October the west monsoon wind blows at The Pier: less settled, with more rain and thunderstorms, but some genuinely strong days. Wind is typically 10 to 15 knots, sometimes 20 to 25 and more. Conditions also change through the day, so our instructors follow the forecast and our own weather station to pick the best slot.
Yes. All three of our spots are flat, shallow lagoons where you can stand up, which is exactly what makes learning easy and safe. Thong Sala Beach is the main base for most of the season, with a thermal south-east wind, side-on; Chaloklum takes over in the north from mid-November on a north-east wind; and The Pier is the monsoon spot from May to October on a west wind. Our instructors pick the spot of the day according to wind direction, tide and safety.

Accrokite IKO Pro Kite School is located at Slumber Party Beach Club and Resort, Tong Sala. To reach us from the Main Pier at Thong Sala when arriving on either the lomprayah, seatran or raja ferry we are a short taxi ride away around 2km from the pier. To get to our kitesurf school jump in a taxi when you get off the boat, there is a taxi rank with taxis going in all directions on the island, you’re looking to go toward ban tai or haad rin.If you would like to walk just follow the main road towards the big C Supermarket.
The entrance road to our kitesurf school is opposite Big C Supermarket, you will pass slumber party hostel, the old kobra gym on the left hand side of the road and you take a left turn at the end of the road and we are only 10 meters again turning right into Slumber Party Beach Club and Resort. Go through reception and onto the beach we are on the right hand side just past the tree house!
